lyrics

V1
'I never thought that I would bump into you..
But I recognize your newsletter - you write for the school
Well that’s cool, I think its true that real news is overdue
So to you I give a salute keep expressing the truth to the youth'
Wait..that’s an abrupt kind of ending
What kind of a conversation starter partners without the filling
Or feelings, matter fact, she’ll never buy a slice of that..
I might just play it smooth and not mention that I rap
Cause you know, stigmas have a tendency to attract
The worst kind of attacks before the moment we interact
Like 'oh, he’s a rapper - the gangsterish type of guy?
Misogynistic inside with a chain swinging to is side
Or, the super abstract dictionary writer?
Syllables are is ocean and making sense is the fire'
I’m getting tired, reassess in the morning
Stress is kinda high so I should hi without a warning

HOOK
I said, go and talk to her
Start a conversation and maybe we’ll converse
Plus, Whats the worst that could happen?
If you said nothing you’ll just stand here distracted

He said fine I’ll talk to her
Start a conversation and maybe we’ll converse
Plus whats the worst that could happen
If she turns me down at least I’ll have her laughing

V2
So here we go for round two, its just the morning again
Apron in hand clocking it in 'fore the morning begins
And it does, I recognize the regular faces
That I see on a daily basis but with different expectations
Around ten is when she comes through the door
Orders a cappuccino tall while she sips it against the wall
And I remember that last time I considered to tell her
That I really liked her writing but my speaking ain’t well versed
So I skipped it, plotting what I would say when she would visit
Maybe hit her with a joke, then transition to linguistics..
Or a topic that captures both of our passions
The sex slave trade or ways of affirmative action
My brainwaves sway away to err on the side of caution
But then my flaw is, our talk becomes too often
And so I soften the blow first by a simple 'hello'
she said 'hey, wait, I think I just went to your show...'

HOOK

V3
She said hi, my name is April and I’m a writer
I write for the paper here but my goals to join Esquire
I seen you a couple times, mainly behind the counter
Serving a couple drinks, pondering to inquire
But the lines are packed out whenever my classes are out
And so I preplanned all my routes just to miss out on the crowd
And it works, oh.. the reason I’m here
I the chance to see your show and I came with a questionnaire
If you don’t mind, I really need just a fraction of your time
How long you been writing, what keeps you in line
my mind is spazzin out by the fact that we’re interacting
I tell myself to relax and reply back while distracted...
